28 June 2021   -   ISU referee James Hewish from Australia has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM), on the occasion of the 2021 birthday of Queen Elizabeth, for his big contribution to shorttrack speed skating.

James Hewish, living in Chipping Norton-Australia, was a chief referee with the International Skating Union starting in 1988 at many international competitions like the Winter Olympics, Worldchampionships and World Cups and also at many national competitions in Australia.

James started speedskating himself at the old Burwood ice rink. But due to injury he had to stop competing. The next season he volunteered to be a referee, what he kept on doing for many years. Besides this he also was for many years Secretary and President of the Australian Ice Racing Federation.

He was chief referee at four Olympic Winter Games and was the ice skating team manager at the Olympic Winter Games of Lillehammer. James Hewish will continue to be involved in the sport domestically at Canterbury Olympic Ice rink-Australia.
