1 May 1970   -   * In june the 33rd congress of the International Skating Union was held in Maidenhead-Great Britain. At this congress E.J.G. "Ernie" Matthews of Great Britain introduced the first Special Regulations for Short Track Speed Skating Competitions.
    * in Brugge-Belgium the new Ice rink of the Boudewijnpark in Sint Nichiels has been opened on the 12th of December bij King Boudewijn of Belgium. The Official Opening Program was held on 21 December 1969 with demonstrations of Figureskating, Traditional (Mideval) Skating and Speedskating by among others Belgium speedskating Champion Willy Caboor.
